Privacy Policy for Shadow Messenger

Overview

Shadow Messenger is designed around one core principle:

Your conversations belong to you! not us.

Shadow uses end-to-end encryption and a zero-knowledge architecture so that message content, calls, and files are inaccessible to anyone except the intended participants. Shadow does not have the ability to read, listen to, or view your private communications.

1. Information We Collect

Shadow is intentionally built to minimize data collection.

Information We Do Not Collect

Shadow does not collect or store:

• Message or call content
• Media content (photos, videos, files) in readable form
• Contact lists or address books
• Precise location data
• Message metadata such as who you message, when, or how often
• Voice recordings or call audio
• Behavioral tracking or advertising identifiers

All message content and attachments are encrypted on your device before transmission.

Information We Collect (Minimal & Necessary) 

Shadow collects only what is required to operate the service:

• Account Identifier
  A randomly generated user ID used for authentication and routing.
• Authentication Credentials
  Encrypted tokens used to verify account access.
• Encrypted Sync Data
  Encrypted friend and relationship data used to synchronize across devices. Shadow cannot decrypt this data.
• Optional Diagnostic Data
  Anonymous crash and performance reports to improve app stability. This data does not include message content or personal identifiers.

2. How We Use Information

The limited data collected is used solely to:

• Authenticate users
• Deliver encrypted messages and calls
• Synchronize encrypted user data across devices
• Maintain service reliability and security

Shadow does not:

• Sell user data
• Share data with advertisers
• Perform behavioral tracking
• Analyze message or call content
• Build user profiles

3. Encryption & Security End-to-End Encryption

All communications are encrypted on the sender’s device and decrypted only on the recipient’s device. Encryption keys are generated and stored locally.

Shadow servers do not possess decryption keys and cannot access message or call content.

File & Media Protection

Files and attachments are encrypted prior to upload and remain encrypted during storage and transit. Even if storage systems were compromised, encrypted content would remain unreadable.

Zero-Knowledge Architecture 

• Encryption occurs before data leaves your device
• Keys remain under user control
• Servers function only as encrypted transport and relay infrastructure

4. Data Storage On - Device Storage

Stored locally on your device:

• Messages and conversation history
• Media and attachments
• Encryption keys
• Voice profiles (if enabled)

You may delete local data at any time through in-app settings.

Cloud Infrastructure (Encrypted)

Shadow uses cloud services for:

• Account authentication
• Encrypted message relay
• Encrypted friend synchronization
• Call signaling metadata

All cloud-stored user data is encrypted. Shadow cannot read or interpret this data.

5. Third-Party Services

Shadow integrates the following services strictly as infrastructure or optional features:

• ElevenLabs - optional voice synthesis; voice profiles remain on the device
• WhisperKit - local speech transcription only

These services do not have access to decrypted messages or calls.

6. User Rights & Controls

You may:

• Delete your account at any time
• Remove all local data from your device
• Disable optional diagnostic reporting
• Request deletion of associated account data

Requests may be submitted via email.

7. Children's Policy

Shadow Messenger is not intended for individuals under the age of 13. Shadow does not knowingly collect personal data from children.

8. Policy Updates

This Privacy Policy may be updated periodically. Significant changes will be communicated through the app or website.
